Referring a Client

Thank you for considering me as a referral resource!

I love collaborating with therapists and other helping professionals to support clients through stressful career transitions.

Who is a good fit?

My coaching focuses on career development, action planning, accountability, and psychoeducation. While I draw on my counseling background, my services are coaching, not psychotherapy.

I provide virtual career coaching for adults throughout the United States. Because my services are provided online, clients can work with me regardless of where they're located in the U.S.

My coaching services are a good fit for adults who are:

  • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in a career transition or decision

  • Struggling with overthinking, perfectionism, or decision paralysis related to work, professional development, or higher education

  • Experiencing fight/flight/freeze states why trying to make career decisions and could benefit from basic psychoeducation on nervous system regulation

  • Exploring career changes, burnout, graduate school, self-employment, or other professional transitions

  • Interested in building confidence, self-trust and self-efficacy, and practical skills for sustainable career decision-making

  • Interested in learning how to stop overplanning and start taking action through small, intentional career experiments

  • Looking for structured, biweekly (2 sessions/month) support and accountability over the course of 1 - 6 months

Who is not a good fit?

Career coaching may not be the best fit for individuals who:

  • Are experiencing a mental health crisis or require crisis intervention

  • Need diagnosis, trauma treatment, or long-term psychotherapy (6+ months)

  • Need intensive mental health support that would be more appropriately addressed in therapy

  • Are looking to use health insurance to pay for services (as I do not take health insurance)

If you're unsure whether coaching or therapy is the better fit, I'm always happy to discuss this with a potential client during a free introductory call with them.

Services I Don't Offer

I've intentionally chosen to specialize in career decision-making and career transitions rather than traditional career services.

I am generally not the best referral fit for clients who are primarily looking for:

  • Resume writing or resume reviews

  • Cover letter writing

  • LinkedIn profile optimization

  • Mock interviews or interview coaching

  • Job search strategy or job application optimization

  • Job placement or job matching services

  • Salary negotiation coaching

  • Career aptitude or personality testing as a stand-alone service

  • Executive coaching or leadership coaching

  • Psychotherapy, mental health treatment, or crisis intervention

If someone is looking for practical support navigating uncertainty, reducing career-related anxiety, breaking out of overthinking, and taking meaningful action through intentional career experiments, we'd likely be a great fit.

If I'm not the right person for a client's needs, I'm always happy to recommend another professional or service that may be a better fit.

Can clients work with me while they're in therapy?

Absolutely. In fact, many people benefit from working with both a therapist and a career coach at the same time.

I welcome clients who are simultaneously working with a therapist. However, I do not routinely communicate with therapists or exchange confidential client information as part of my coaching practice. If a client would like me to collaborate with another provider, we'll discuss what is appropriate and how to protect their privacy.

Therapy and coaching serve different purposes. While a therapist may help someone process emotions, heal from past experiences, or address mental health concerns, my coaching focuses on navigating career decisions, reducing career-related overthinking, designing intentional career experiments, and taking meaningful action toward a more sustainable career.

Clients often find that therapy and coaching complement one another well. As long as the client is comfortable doing so, I encourage them to let their therapist know they're working with a career coach so they can ensure all areas of support align with the client's goals.

Please note that my coaching services are not a substitute for psychotherapy, and I do not provide mental health treatment or crisis services.

How to refer someone

The easiest way to refer a client is simply to direct them to my website, where they can learn more about my services and schedule a free introductory call if they think we're a good fit.

Please do not send me releases of information, therapy notes, or any confidential client information.

Because my services are career coaching rather than psychotherapy, I do not maintain HIPAA-compliant systems for receiving protected health information. If a client decides to work with me, they can share whatever information they feel is helpful during our coaching relationship.

Thank you for helping connect people with the support they need! I appreciate being part of your professional referral network, and I'm always happy to refer clients to trusted therapists when therapy would be a better fit.

I value building strong relationships with therapists, counselors, social workers, academic advisors, fellow career coaches, and other helping professionals.
