Frequently Asked Questions

  • Career experiments are a way to learn about your career options by active exploration and connection with real life people.

They're small, intentional projects that helps you gain real world information about yourself and your career options.

A lot of people get caught in a cycle of overplanning, overthinking, overwhelm, perfectionism, and isolated research. Or they feel like their only other option is to go from 0 to 100 and trying to change their life all in one fell swoop.

Instead, I promote a more realistic approach that actually supports your wellbeing. I help people identify clear career experiments that take into account their existing energy and risk level and resources, follow through on it, process it, and make decisions about next steps.

We notice what pain or discomfort is driving your desire for change, bring awareness to that, and identify what could actually help address that pain - because it might not be a huge career switch.

Instead of quitting your job to start a business, we may try creating ONE small offering for you to do pro bono, then collecting feedback and a testimonial.

Instead of going to graduate school, we may try completing ONE self guided study and self created project on that topic, and scheduling a chat with at least ONE professional in that field.

We notice what fears, self talk, nervous system responses, and protective patterns show up for you in the process.

And then, like any good experiment, we look at the data you gathered, make meaning of it, and figure out your next steps together.

  • Yes! It’s a totally free 15 minute video call. I’m happy to talk and help you figure out if my services are a good fit for your needs.

I will never pressure you to pay for services you don’t need. If it’s not a good fit, I can refer you to other options based on your specific needs.

  • While I do have my master’s in clinical mental health counseling, my work in this business is strictly limited to career coaching, not mental health therapy. We can talk about nervous system regulation, and how your mental health impacts your career, but I do not provide diagnoses or treat mental health conditions.

If you aren’t sure if we’re a good fit for your needs, you are welcome to reach out, and I am happy to share other resources and options with you as needed!

  • I’m happy to work with anyone who wants support using career experiments to take action and break out of overthinking and overplanning.

I originally focused on working with Gen Z clients. Starting “Gen Z Career Coach” was my own career experiment back in 2024, and even though my niche has evolved since then, the name serves as a reminder for myself to take imperfect action! Things can change, and that’s ok :)

  • I am currently at capacity for reduced fee work. However, financial accessibility is a core value of mine. If I open additional reduced fee spots in the future, I will advertise it on LinkedIn.

Here are my recommendations for getting free / low cost career support:

Look to your alma mater. You may qualify for free alumni career services.

Look to your state’s universities. They may provide free career services and mental health therapy (done by students) as part of their counseling master’s programs.

Look up private practices in your state and look for graduate level interns. Counseling, social work, and psychology graduate students usually have to complete an internship at the end of their program, and oftentimes offer reduced fee services for therapy and career counseling. They are a great resource - and research shows that early career clinicians are actually as effective if not more effective than more experienced clinicians, due to high motivation, regular supervision, and the use of evidence-based practices.

Look up community mental health resources in your state. You may be able to access free therapy and career guidance through these programs.

Look to your employer. They may have EAP services for free therapy to help manage stress, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.

  • Good question! I no longer offer resume reviews, mock interviews, or coaching services solely focused on job searching.

I have recently transitioned my coaching services to focus on helping clients break out of career decision paralysis and move into action through career experiments.

We will still talk about your career goals, overall career strategy, and networking. However, I now focus on small actions within your control that help you gain momentum and learn more about what you really want.

  • Not currently. It’s something I’m considering, and I do occasionally host workshops, but for now, my offerings are focused on individual services.

However, there are tons of great resources out there that you can check out if you want to DIY your career skills outside of coaching. I recommend you watch some videos by these lovely people on YouTube:

This video is a great quick tutorial on using ChatGPT to START a cover letter. But please know that you should NEVER just use ChatGPT and leave its output as is. You HAVE to edit the output to sound more human. Some employers are really sensitive to AI-sounding language and may reject you outright if they think you used AI to write your cover letter. So PLEASE only use this is a starting point and make lots of edits to make it sound human!

  • An informational interview is where you ask me any questions you have about my experiences in work or life.

I do these for free! They’re 15 minutes long and via video call. I can share what has worked for me and any lessons or advice I have.

You can do more than one call if you don’t get all your questions answered the first time or you think of more.
